The politicization of the judiciary, public media and public administration by the ruling Law and Justice party (PiS) has undermined the quality of democracy and contributed to even deeper divisions in Polish society.

During the period under review, Poland’s economic performance was good and forecasts for the future are positive. The government’s fiscal and debt policies generally promote macroeconomic stability, but social spending has increased and populist promises are repeatedly made.

Law-making is often dominated by badly prepared bills that are passed hastily so that there is hardly any opportunity for other actors to have a say in them.
